Like Craigellachie? You’ll love this 16-year-old single malt drawn from a second-fill sherry butt! The Speyside distillery’s signature earthy, meaty character is complemented by the fruity, sweet spice influence from the cask, resulting in a big, bold whisky resplendent with grain and furniture polish notes ahead of a stunningly long finish. A must-try expression distilled at the iconic maker.
Nose: An immensely pronounced nose opens with rich black treacle notes alongside a bold, rubbery meaty note. Stewed tropical fruits, burnt rubber, pork and apple cause, liquorice, pencil eraser, neoprene and plum all contribute to the complexity.
Palate: Charred pineapple and melon set a tropical fruit theme, backed by burnt pork sausages, charred gains, pear, sourdough, red fruits and furniture polish. Oaky, antique notes arrive later.
Finish: Stunningly long and meandering, as earthy charred meats, sweet spices and tropical fruits weave together.
