Milroy's of Soho has released the Soho Selection . For this particular series, Milroy's are looking for the more unusual, more modern expressions that show good whisky can come at any age.
Milroy’s loves Ben Nevis, and will always be in the market for exceptional casks to bottle for our Soho Selection series. This 15-year-old hogshead really fits that brief. It is awash with pear notes, but it’s rooted in a fascinating farmyard earthiness that speaks to the complexity of this Highland single malt Scotch distillery. There’s so much going on here – it’s a whisky to savour all evening long.
Nose: Initially toasted oak and soft malt come to the forefront, along with crisp breakfast cereal. This is soon overlaid by an abundance of tropical fruit, with pineapple, ripe banana and melon notes. With time, a dusting of cinnamon comes through, along with the sweetness of jam doughnuts, milk chocolate and fresh raspberries sprinkled with icing sugar. Coffee grounds give a sense of depth.
Palate: The sunny tropical fruit notes return, backed by a grounding earthiness. Red berries and a touch of chilli-chocolate add texture to the waxy mouthfeel, underscored by cream soda and buttery toast. Salted caramel and green apple emerge with time.
Finish: Medium length with warming oak and gentle pepper.
